The prefecture of Messinia is ocated at the southwestern part of Peloponnese and it borders with the prefecture of Laconia on the east and the prefectures of Arcadia and Elia on the north.

If you are a fan of mountian hiking, you can visit the peaks Annina, Lipovouni, Marmarokastro, Vassiliki, Neraidovouna, Xerovouna of the mountain Taigetos.

If you have a boat you shall visit the islets Proti, Shiza, Sapientza, Agia Mariani and Venetiko. you can wharf at the port of Kalamata or Pylos.

The festival of Panagia on August the 15th at Kardamyli and Koroni.
The cultural festivals during summer at Kyparissia.
The cultural events "Ithomea" on August at Mavromati.
The celebration of Shrove Monday at Methoni.
The carnival and the six-day bazaar on September at Meligalas.
The carnival and the custom "Saitopolemos" on Monday after Easter at Messini.
The cultural events "Navarinia" on August and the celebration of the anniversary of the sea fight of Navarino on October the 20th at Pylos.
The cultural events "Nestoria" on august at Hora Trifilias.

LOCAL PRODUCTS:
At the prefecture of Messinia you can buy oil, olives, wine, figs, raisins, raki, lalagia (fried cookies), mastic and sausages with orange. Addiitonally, at the monastery of Agios Konstantinos and Agia Eleni ta Kalamata you shall find silken fabrics.
MAJOR TOWNS / CITIES / VILLAGES
Kalamata
Cosmopolitan capital and picturesque port, Kalamata is one of the most developed towns of the prefecture of Messinia and of Greece. Fine street planning, broad roads, squares and parks compose the beautiful icon of the town of kalamata, which is also an important educational and artistic center.

Koroni
Koroni is a traditional, coastal hamlet, built amphitheatrically on a low hill, resembling the cycladic settlements. Narrow uphill alleys, whitewashed houses and flowered balconies compose the beautiful hamlet, while at the same time Koroni enchants the visitor due to the fact that it also resembles a medieval town.

Kyparissia
Kyparissia is a coastal hamlet built on the foot of the mountain Psihro. Kyparissia is divided in the Ano Poli, which is a traditional settlement and the Kato Poli, ehich is a modern settlement.

Pylos
Pylos, built amphitheatrically on two low hills, is a wonderful historical town with numerous insular features that embellish even more the beautiful settlement. The square with the cannons, the tall and shadowy sykamore tree, the arches of the buildings and the appealing islet in the heart of the port, constitutes a wonderful icon.

Finikoudas
Finikoundas, built at a leeward bay, is a picturesque fishermans village that has become a much frequented tourist resort, renowned for its magnificent coasts.

Petalidi
Peatalidi, built on the cove of a small anchorage, is one of the most important tourist resorts of the prefecture of Messinia.

BY AIRPLANE:
From the Athens airport at Spata there are flights for Kalamata all through the year. The duration of the flight is 50 minutes. The airport is located at a distance of 8 km from Kalamata.
